ELECTROLYSIS & DIATHERMY

ELECTROLYSIS

Electrolysis is the only medically and scientifically proven means to remove hair permanently. Electrolysis is approved by the medical profession and has been available for over 100 years.

Electrologists use a thin needle, which is often even finer than the hair. They insert the needle into the opening of the hair follicle. A small electrical current destroys the hair growth cells. The skin where the needle enters may feel temporarily hot or like a pinch.

Electrolysis work by killing the stem cells responsible for hair growth. These are located in an area called ‘the Bulge’, in the upper part of the follicle.

Once the bulge is killed, no hair will be able to grow

When it comes to hair removal, there is no better solution than Electrolysis — a treatment that is as individual as you. Not only is Electrolysis the best option for permanent hair removal; your Electrologist will also work with you every step of the way to customise your treatment to ensure that you attain your desired results. Now, with Electrolysis, all the experience and personal attention you need to address your unwanted hair concerns are available using the most trusted hair removal method available.

Electrolysis has NOT been made redundant by new IPL technology. In many instances Electrolysis is the Gold Standard in hair removal.

Unlike IPL, Electrolysis can permanently remove white hair, red hair and blonde hair.

A single-use, sterile, disposable needle is provided for every treatment. Electrolysis treatments can take anywhere from 6 months to 5 years depending on how strong the hair is, whether the client is still producing NEW hairs due to an ongoing medical condition, how much hair there is and how regularly the client comes to the clinic.

At Body Wisdom we evaluate whether you are a good candidate for electrolysis, or whether IPL hair reduction may be a better alternative and we develop a hair removal program tailored individually for you.

You will need several appointments. The number of sessions needed to achieve permanent hair removal differs from person to person. Typically, you need an appointment every week or every other week. The appointments can last for up to a year and a half.

Treatment length depends on several factors, including the body area and the type of hair growing there. If you’re treating a larger area, or an area with coarse hair, you’ll need more treatments.

We offer a consultation to discuss whether Electrolysis is right for you.

DIATHERMY

Diathermy treats skin tags, thread veins, broken capillaries/red veins (spider veins) on the face and sometimes on the body depending on depth.

WHAT ARE THREAD VEINS?

Thread veins are also called red veins or broken capillaries and telangiectasias. Normally positioned in the deeper, dermal areas of the skin, small blood vessels expand and rupture, seeping into the surface layers and becoming visible. They appear as wavy red lines (thread veins), red spots, or as red spots with thin red lines radiating from them (spider naevi).

Thread veins (also known as dilated capillaries, spider veins, broken veins or red veins) are extremely common and mostly found on the nose and cheeks of men and women of all ages.

They can occur because of a wide range of factors such as sensitive skin, sun exposure or extreme temperatures, smoking, medication, skin care products, pregnancy or often because of a hereditary predisposition. Whatever the cause, people who have thread veins on their face often feel self-conscious or lack confidence in their appearance as a result.

Thread vein removal using short wave diathermy offers an extremely effective way of reducing or even eradicating the appearance of these dilated capillaries in the face. There is minimal down time with this procedure and you should begin to see noticeable improvements within two or three weeks of receiving the treatment. The end result should be a clearer looking complexion and more even skin tone.

Diathermy works by applying a minute current just underneath the skin surface by tapping a very fine needle along the affected area. A single-use, sterile, disposable needle is provided for each diathermy treatment.

Diathermy is usually offered in 10–20 minute treatments.

Typically 3–6 treatments are required to clear facial veins but even after one treatment of diathermy there will be a noticeable difference.

Thread vein removal using short wave diathermy is a safe, comfortable and highly effective procedure that offers an affordable alternative to other treatment methods. With minimal down time and long-term results, this is a fantastic treatment for aesthetically enhancing your skin and giving you a healthy, clear complexion.

AFTER CARE

These instructions are designed to promote healing and to avoid irritation or infection of the treated area:

  • The area may remain red for several hours.

  • Avoid wetting the skin for 24 hours.

  • Avoid exfoliation and AHA and BHA’s and all Retinol/ Vitimin A’s for 3 days

  • Avoid touching the area.

  • Protect the area from soap, shampoo and hair spray etc. for 24 hours.

  • Do not knock off any tiny crusts present.

  • Do not use a sunbed or sauna and avoid strong sun rays until the area is completely healed (several days). This is because the area treated may be irritated by the heat, may not tan, and may be more prone to sun-burn.
